.Tom Bevard knew years ago as he worked in Boys Homes and as a jailor that he had a heart to share the gospel with others. Through prayer and time, the Lord showed him to reach out even more. He traveled weekly to hold bible studies at the Topeka Women’s Facility, and with the support of wife Lucille, he formed a group to take outreach events to Kansas Prisons.
Rev. Bevard felt the Lord had given him the name "Freedom Ministries" for the ministry to the inmates. The name represented the freedom the Lord gives.
In 1998 Freedom Ministries went to three prisons. Tom and volunteers held services with music, ministry, and bbq for the inmates. More than 100 came forward for salvation. large crowds came to the events to hear the gospel, from Rev. Bevard a very strong preacher and others.
In these events Freedom Ministries cooked hamburgers for everyone. This would include preaching, and music. Freedom Ministries traveled to three prisons, Winfield, Hutchinson, and Larned,. In 2001 Freedom Ministries was given access to every prison in Kansas for events.
Much of the draw outside of the messages Rev. Bevard and others have brought is the music. Tom and his son play music with many styles, guests also perform. Help with the cooking came from Gary and Janis Pearson & Jerry Taylor and Richard Olson of Lawrence.
Freedom Ministries also established discipleship programs in Larned, KS and Hutchinson. Volunteers have helped with bible studies at Topeka & other facilities. These programs make a difference in many lives.
Many churches and individuals have helped over the years, and we look forward to the future. Since then Rev. Tom and volunteers have traveled the state each year. Praise the Lord.
Volunteers help cook at Fresh Start Events.
Volunteers have always been a big part of the success of Freedom Ministries. For years they have helped with truck driving, the food line, and more.
Others have came specifically to help with music, set-up and witnessing.
We appreciate all the many volunteers who have helped cook hamburgers, prayed for others and been a part of the many Fresh Start events.
Thank you so much.
